Rudy's Goes to Bali January, 2019 February 13 2019

When we arrived in Denpasar, the first thing we noticed was the smell.  A mixture of flowers and incense and ocean.  A full-on sensory extravaganza that has been imprinted on my brain, that will hopefully remain and be called forward whenever I think of this beautiful place.

We were there for business, to hunt down unusual items for Rudy's, but we couldn't help stopping to smell the flowers that were everywhere!  The Balinese culture is rich and beautiful and soaked in Hinduism.  The people are friendly, gracious, and kind, and so willing to share their lives and beliefs with us.  We enjoyed seeing and experiencing the landscapes and ceremonies with these generous hosts.

And the shopping!!! The art and crafts and furniture were everywhere, and we were amazed at the talent of the artisans. They draw inspiration from nature, spirituality and their surroundings, and we were astounded by the patient and hard-working nature of the artists, working long hours in extreme heat to create beauty for others to enjoy.

Needless to say, we blew the budget!

We hope our customers like what we found! It was a joy to search!

Today's Featured Business: Pura Vida Hair Co.

Since high school, Krista Ursulescu had a dream to own a hair salon.  She believed that the people of Regina Beach deserved a salon that provided a relaxed environment and offered amazing products and services.  Her dream finally came true when she opened up Pura Vida Hair Company in October of 2013.

The name in Spanish means Pure Life.  Live slow, live free, enjoy and love life is a phrase that Krista strongly believes in, and she works to promote this lifestyle in her beloved Regina Beach.

When you enter Pura Vida, you will feel a calm and caring environment where your preferences are listened to, and you can trust that you will leave feeling relaxed and amazing.  And usually, you will have had several belly laughs and a whole lot of fun while you are pampered.

Pura Vida is an Aveda Salon.  Aveda is an industry leader in men and women’s hair care products whose vision is “Connecting beauty, environment and well-being.” These are traits that are very close to Krista’s heart; it is a marvelous fit for the salon and it’s clients.

Krista has a keen eye and artistic soul, so you can trust that she will give you a new look that will suit your style, be up to date, and she will even give you tips on how to style and care for your new doo.

Jill Sovdi has been an Aesthetician for over 13 years, and her upbeat attitude and mad skills make her a perfect addition to Pura Vida.  Services she offers include waxing, gel nails, manicures and pedicures.

Regina Beach is very lucky to be home to this first class salon.  For a great pampering experience, come in and see the ladies at Pura Vida.  You can book your appointment on line at www.puravidahairco.ca, or call 306-729-3737.

If you haven’t yet heard about the fantastic, new Mexican restaurant at Regina Beach, let me introduce you to Chachalacas Mexican Cuisine!

Chachalacas is a family run restaurant whose owners are passionate about tasty, Fresh & Authentic food. Since his childhood, chef and owner, Rolando Peña, has travelled to some of the most remote areas of his country, discovering the richest flavours, freshest ingredients, and most celebrated recipes of Mexico. All of his creations at Chachalacas are made from scratch. It doesn't get better than that!

Co-owner, Amy Peña, is as passionate about service as Rolando is about great food, and together they are serving up the most delicious Mexican food around and it’s all For a Purpose. Amy and Rolando share a vision of ending childhood hunger and a portion of their profits is being put to good work to support communities where families struggle to make ends meet, beginning in Mexico. Coming from humble background themselves, the Peñas are working to bring a brighter future to the next generation.

Beyond fabulous food, Chachalacas offers a taste of “la dulce vida,” the sweet life. Come and enjoy the flavours and fun-filled ambience of Saskatchewan’s favourite tropical destination, Mexico!

Today's Featured Business: The Ugly Mug Café

Every time I walk into The Ugly Mug Café, I am captivated by the row of ugly mugs peering down at me from the shelf behind the barnwood counter, some with eyes, others sightless but somehow seeing.

Aside from the unsightly mugs and the name of the restaurant, there is nothing ugly about this welcoming little café situated at the heart of town. Founded by friends and neighbours, Paula & Mark and Laura & Keith, The Ugly Mug Café maintains a rustic feel in a modern space and delights its patrons with a menu of freshly made treats, sandwiches, salads and soups. On Saturday mornings, if you’re early, you can indulge in a fresh cinnamon bun with an accompanying caramel macchiato. Or perhaps you’re the savoury type and would prefer a toasty breakfast bagel, complete with eggs, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo, and served up with a cup of coffee, black.

On hot summer days, the patio at The Ugly Mug Café is a popular destination for both iced coffees and cold beer. Licensed this past spring, they now offer a selection of wine, coolers and beer to quench all types of thirst. Pair your beverage with a Greek or Ceaser wrap and fresh soup, and you will be well nourished in a welcoming environment, just what a beach-goer needs, rain or shine!

You will always find an uplifting environment at The Ugly Mug with the music playing and free WIFI available—a great place to meet friends, do a little work, relax, laugh, and share experiences with staff and friends. See you there!

Today's Featured Business: The Blue Bird Café

Some things stand the test of time, like fine china, aged scotch… and The Blue Bird Cafe. First established in the 1920s, The Blue Bird Cafe opened during the time when passenger trains carried summer tourists to Regina Beach, and not long after the era of steamships had ended on Last Mountain Lake.

The steamboat 'Qu'Appelle' carried people and freight up and down Last Mountain Lake for decades.

Businesses came and went, passenger trains became obsolete as the highway came alive with cars headed to the thriving resort town, and still The Blue Bird Café continued to serve up legendary fish and chips – using the original recipe since 1928 – and great meals throughout the summer months. It remains as the one mainstay that hasn’t really changed at all.

Nowadays, when you tell someone that you’ve been to Regina Beach, their first response is, “Did you go to The Blue Bird for fish and chips?!” It’s as though the iconic restaurant is synonymous with a day at the beach, and that’s not simply because the food is always delicious. The Blue Bird Café offers a unique dining experience where families and friends gather on the stairs (which have been refinished this summer with a comfy rubber surface made of recycled tires!) to eat take-out and watch passersby, while others enjoy their meals in the rustic café where the interior design is nothing short of nostalgic.

Whether you're stopping for brunch with the family or grabbing fish and chips to take on the boat, The Blue Bird Cafe is sure to delight both young and old.

"A Day At The Beach" Featuring: Rudy's June 04 2016

IN JULY, YOU COULD WIN OUR "A DAY AT THE BEACH" PRIZE PACKAGE VALUED AT OVER $400!

Stay tuned for details! Includes prizes from: Rudy's, The Blue Bird Cafe, The Ugly Mug, Chachalacas Mexican Cuisine, Regina Beach Golf Club, The Waterfront Beach Bar & Grill, Offshore Beach ShopPura Vida Hair Co, W.O.W Rentals and Sundae Times.

Today's Featured Business: Rudy's

At first glance, the building that houses Rudy’s understates the promise of treasure to be found within, much like a clam that conceals a glittering pearl. An Om symbol (ॐ) artfully spray-painted on the face of the store suggests to those familiar with its origins that Rudy’s offers goods collected from the far corners of the world, while also sending a message of peace.

As you pull open the door, the scent of Nag Champa greets your nostrils first, followed by a sense that everything is as it should be in an intimate little store that is packed from ceiling to floor with a collection of merchandise so diverse that everyone – young and old – can unearth a treasure of their own. Where will your eye take you first? What is it that you are in search of?

The thing that makes Rudy’s truly welcoming isn’t simply the music that has you swaying to the rhythm, it is the warm reception you receive from Lori and her tribe of women who have genuinely missed you over the winter months and are thrilled to see you at the beach once again! All of Rudy's patrons, from the townies who stop by on the regular, to the family members only visiting, and the weekenders from the city, are cherished, for it takes all sorts to build the rich and diverse community that they envision. And they are grateful to have you with them.

Rudy's is open every day from 11 am to 7 pm.

The walls, adorned with wooden carvings of Polynesian-style masks and nautical anchors interspersed between vibrant tapestries and beachy signs – “the Lake is Calling and I Must Go” – capture your attention. Wind chimes and fabric bags hang from the ceiling. A stone Ganesha and wooden owls peer up at you from the floor. And you haven’t even stepped into the racks of clothing packed with boho-inspired outfits, colourful pants, and patchwork shirts!

As you move around the store, your eyes, unable to take everything in at once, travel from shoes… hats… purses nestled into a corner amongst sparkling crystals, precious gems and glowing salt lamps. A second trip around may reveal a showcase of jewelry that had gone unseen, or a stand of wooden ornaments. It's a tantalizing treasure hunt, indeed.

Our Great New Mural! October 17 2014

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who worked to make our new mural so beautiful!  Our great old mural was getting pretty decrepit, and lots of prep work was necessary to get it ready for Neff Justin to work his magic.

Thanks so much to Jake and John the Gardener for getting the wall ready, and to Brian the Mason for lending us his tools.

Right after the Arts Frenzy, Justin got busy and created the mural.  It was amazing how fast he transformed the blank wall from nuthin to awesome!

And shortly later, our wonderful new mural was complete!  Thank you Justin, for making the world a more beautiful place, and using your gifts for good and not evil.  We love you to bits!
